The rumour, in my time, was that they were sheep shearers.

[quote="Fjgrogan"]Yes - I could take umbrage at Phil's comments, but I won't because it is so good to see him back on here! Feminist commune in Devon - mmmm that might be interesting! Meaningful life elsewhere - just tell me where and I shall make a beeline for it! In fact I think I shall ...

I was in Col A, as a swab, in 1947. I used to clean the fireplace for the second monitor, Ian Murray, but never hauled coal for him.

Re: Jicker, Housey slang and individual Houses
Fotch was used in Col A, but not bay. We used 'collops' for minced meat, that was served as a kind of stew on occasions. It was much tastier than Housey stew. Another word used in Col A was 'oz' for a slice of bread. Maybe this described it's presumed weight. During bread rationing in 1947 the most ...

Re: Rev W Cochrane. (Corks!)
In about 1948 or 9 Coleridge produced 'Trial by Jury'. This was in Cork's time. I do not know what his reaction was as I was not involved at all.
