Re: The "New" Old Blue
I confess to the errors in the introduction. Written in haste and not checked by anyone. FATAL ERROR! I am well aware of the rules about the use of the apostrophe, so feel suitably chastened. Proofing a magazine of this size, that is written by dozens of people and tinkered with right up to publicat...

Re: Pre-IB students
IB will arrive in 2011 barring some extraordinary turn of events. As with all new initiatives, it will take time to bed in and time for the pupil numbers to rise to their peak level. Personally, I think that the IB model is more attractive than the current AS/A2 model that is now fatally flawed as a...

Re: How tired
Lucky you! Harry is earnest but still prefers his PS3 to his academic work! We will see how the cookie crumbles

or a reduction in boarders!! Who knows - my guess is that they will do whatever raises the most money in the short term and then reign back when the economy is booming again (unlikely for the next few years sadly!)

How tired
Looking back, how tired where the new 2nd form when they returned home for the first leave weekend? They seem so busy, rushing to and fro. Also, how long was it before they got into the rhythm of the place? It is odd, but having worked here since 1996, this is the first year I have a vested interest...

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
In answer to the early point, at the moment i think day places are on top of boarding places. May be wrong and presumably that may change if demand exceeds supply? It is such a new thing that we wait and see - a bit like the IB. I am very very pro IB but will not bore you why!

Re: emails
It is now the done thing to let them board for the first three weeks so that they get the full picture. After that it is up to them. They can be a day pupil or flexi boarder. We wait and see what Harry will opt to do. In the end though, as soon as someone needs his bed full time he will be home agai...

Re: emails
My son started at the school last Wednesday. He is boarding at the moment (I am a member of staff). We have sent him emails and received no reply. Fortunately, I see him and teach him (very odd) but my wife does not so she is feeling very out of it. My point being, that if there was a real problem y...

Re: Pre-IB students
My son went to a local Prep school. The most popular school to send your son/daughter to from there is currently Brighton College and Hurstpierpoint. They are both at least 30 mins away in morning rush hour traffic. Cranleigh is closer but still 30 mins drive in the morning rush hour. Farlington is ...

Re: Pre-IB students
I think that the real growth will be in day places. I speak as someone who knows many local parents who would not send their child to a boarding school, (the idea of which is odd to the majority of people these days after all), but are very keen on CH as a day school. Horsham is affluent and the nea...

Re: Academic level for entry at 11
In my experience, most competitive entry pupils are SAT level 5B or above in at least English or Maths. Entry is harder than it has been in recent years, not least because the number of applicants is rising. We expect 1000 families here on Saturday. When you add the new Day pupils, it will make it v...

Re: Day Pupils.
Not sure about that. I think so, but do not know so. Based on this year's figures the competative entry remained over subscribed by about 4 to 1. The entrance papers (that my son took this year) are very similar to 11+ papers you can get on the internet or in WHSmiths. Tough but manageable if your s...

Re: Day Pupils.
Yes they have, although I suspect that we will have a lot more starting in 2011 than 2010 due to the late notice.
