Re: Date of sentencing of Webb and Burr
I'm with the Spoon on this. No way should crimes prescribe IMO (not sure if that's the correct legal term), and definitely not ones of this ilk. Evidence often comes to light after many years, why should a criminal get away with it just because a certain number of years have elapsed? Here in Spain i...

Re: Three-day week 1973/74
I remember the 70s power cuts at CH. Someone's candle burnt right down in their study and there was a fire which the Fire Brigade put out in a jiffy. I think it was in Maine B. Must have been 1970 or 71.

Re: God in the Quad ?
The Pope is also pretty damning about how the church is organised and run.

Re: God in the Quad ?
Not quite sure how CH could have been insulating you against religion when we had to go to chapel and pray so often. More likely, as you say, you were a young lad more interested in girls and smoking or the like than in sermons by boring old farts (like we are now) which didn't appeal to your teenag...

Re: Food at CH
I'm about 6 foot and thin (and old!) and I reckon most of it is down to genes but some of it must be down to school food as I was a boarder in three different institutions till I was 21 (prep, CH and uni). I have some hazy memories of hating some things (bubble and squeak) and looking forward to oth...

Avon, you say that George Michael made truly awful music. Rather subjective I feel. He sold more than 100,000,000 records and is ranked 40th on the all time greats. Not on your list maybe but there again maybe you prefer Motorhead, Englebert Humperdink, Bob Marley, Susan Boyle or Mozart. Beauty is i...

Re: Poor disciplinary C.H. staff
Talking of Latin, in Tom Keeley's classroom, scratched into one of the desks (we could have a thread on this with their holes and graffiti) was the following which tickled my fancy and has stayed with me for 45 years since I read it. Latin is a language as dead as dead can be. It killed the ancient ...

Quite a character and obviously very brave. He was my housemaster in LHB and I was a button grecian with his son Dominic. RIP

Re: Poor disciplinary C.H. staff
Tom Keeley ´taught`me for about three years in the 70s. He was an affable character but seemed to have very little interest in teaching. He would turn up 20 minutes late for most classes by which time the whole class would have disappeared. On other occasions he literally fell asleep in the class. I...

In 70s Thorn B I remember we had little lockers with our names on them halfway down the stairs to the dorms in which they placed clean hankies every now and again. Can't remember how it worked with socks or undies though.

Re: GUILDFORD-HORSHAM TRAIN
Spain still has a lot of narrow gauge trains which are nearly all single track. I travel on one regularly and the system is that in one station halfway there is a double line and one train simply waits there until the other arrives and then they pass like strangers in the night. That system has prob...
