Re: ANY DUTCH SPEAKERS OUT THERE?

Now 28 offers and stil rising. It would seem that an extraordinary number of Old Blues have Dutch spouses - there is clearly an opportunity for a post-graduate sociological thesis here!
Again, many thanks to all who responded.

ANY DUTCH SPEAKERS OUT THERE?

I am doing research on Old Blues who died in World War Two. I have obtained a book IN DUTCH which appears to contain references to the death of one of them in Sumatra. The section concerned is about 700 words long. I can get the general gist but need an accurate translation to ensure that I do not m...

Op Bluecoat

There was discussion in The Blue some years ago concerning whether the name "Operation Bluecoat" could have been chosen by an Old Blue, or the operation could have had some other (undisclosed) link with Housie. This is extremely unlikely. The system for codenames is that there is a masterl...

Re: Bokkers Today

My recollection is that in the early 1950s the term "bokker" referred not only to school groundsmen and maintenance staff, but also to any agricutural worker; ie, farmhands. I can remember travelling on the CH-Guildford line and four of us shouting at every farmworker we saw in the fields,...

Re: Change of Name - is it true?

Unfortunately, it is correct. What I find so insulting is that there was not even a pretence of seeking to consult members of the association as to what they thought of the proposal. After all, what is the rush? What is the rationale - if any? It is well accepted in modern management that an organis...

I apologise - slip of the keyboard. Doesn't change what I had to say, though.

Re: Summer 2009 'Old Blue'

Richard Ruck said: "The School is NOT poor, nor do I believe is the Association, and if it is pleading poverty, what happened to the Club Funds ?" I was involved with the Club Committee at the time of the Club's demise. At that time, the Club had some 4,900 members who happily paid £15 a ...
