I just realised why this forum is so compelling... It's because you can click on any thread and be 100% sure that you will have absolutely no idea what topic will be up for discussion! LOL Aren't we delightfully adept at wandering off-topic, all round the houses, up the garden path, and ending up so...

I think the thing to remember is that it wasn't 'a uniform' in the way that most schools had, but a complete wardrobe to cover all situations and days of the week. As we had no clothing of our own, there is no single uniform that would have been suitable for every waking hour. And on the subject of ...

How well I remember the French boy shinning up the drain-pipe at the Auberge... It seemed so terribly exciting, (even though 'nothing happened' to use the modern expression). I remember him giving me a little ring made out of bent copper wire when he kissed me goodbye on the railway station. It was ...

And what happened to the School Hall and Dining Room, with all that wood panelling and the plaques and portraits? Are they preserved anywhere? Or was the panelling recycled through salvage yards? I desperately hope it wasn't completely binned as rubbish. As for the chapel... it's very sad, but I gue...

Knowing how 'boys' were a huge source of mystique and excitement to us, I can hardly imagine the impact of being told that next year we would be at Horsham mixing with these mythical creatures on a daily basis!!! Can anyone remember the actual moment they heard the news? How did the girls react? Or ...

Oh dear... I hope that didn't turn out to be the most expensive sweater ever made!

But yes, I really do understand.

It's so true that we were late developers as far as relating to the opposite sex went. I remember feeling hugely disadvantaged at 17 when 'normal' girls at home seemed so at ease with flirting and 'chasing a boy until he caught her' (NOT a typing error). I remember thinking that I was stumbling arou...

Miss Richards..... the name still strikes fear into me! Hemming the turning all around a table-runner with microscopic stitches, mitring corners, and doing drawn-thread work to decorate it. Crocheting a lacey edging onto it... ! Backstitching a skirt seam by hand in the first year when we were deeme...

I'm pretty sure this pic is a couple of years earlier than the other one, and that the short girl with long dark hair was Hilary Monsell in her first year, which would place it around 1967 I think.

I've noticed a few references in these threads to the way the 'CH girls' were 'different' from many other girls in general... Hooligans on the hockey field, demon bowlers at cricket, easily identified on a D of E course because of their confidence, and this prompts me to voice a few thoughts. I real...

Hey Jude, is that prescribed as in 'advised', or prescribed as in 'the NHS will pay for it'?

I've thought for years that the local gym should be prescribed on the NHS as an alternative to some medications for some people.
