Re: THE PARAGUAYAN CONNECTION - 1944
You may like to know that due to some diligent research by Clifford Jones in the Museum, this mystery has now been solved. The boy was names Michael Evans and he was at CH (MidB) from January 1935 to July 1942. His parents did live in Paraguay. He was a passenger in a train running from Guildford to...

Re: Barnes Wallis badge?
I may be able to help, as I wrote a booklet on the subject, which was published in 2003. The "Christ's Hospital RAF Foundationers Trust" (to give its proper name) was set up in 1951 with £10,000 from Barnes Wallis and an equal amount fron the RAF Benevolent Fund. It was to be used to pres...

Re: You might be a CH geek if (add your own!)
Neill says: Re Qiuiz and Ego --- It was universal in my time at CH, but has probably, as with many other things now ,regrettably, lapsed . Did you know that in prison, the term "Two's up !" serves the same function ! We had the same expression in the Army, but with a slightly different mea...

THE PARAGUAYAN CONNECTION - 1944
In my researches I have come across an incident in 1944 in which an Old Blue was killed within weeks of leaving. All I know about him is a comment by HLO Flecker (so it must be true!) that the boy's parents ran a ranch in Paraguay. Sadly he does not mention a name and the incident is not reported in...

Re: The Pedant's Revolt
Several years ago I had some windows on my house replaced. The estimate was £4,000 and when the bill was produced on the last day of work I had a cheque for that amount ready to hand over. To my astonishment, the actual bill was for £4,000.01p (that is, four thousand pounds and one penny). Of cour...

ANYBODY LIVE IN/NEAR LISBON
Does any Old Blue live in or near Lisbon, who would be prepared to visit a church to view a CH monument?

Re: Looking for Info on my Dad from 1930/40s
Kazpod, Because I am working on something else I have a complete run of The Blue from mid-1939 to end 1949. That said, I very much regret that I cannot be of much help. The first thing I can say with absolute certainty is that there is not a single photograph of any description in any of the issues....

Re: the railway servng the school in 1936
Further info on the attack on the Railway. It took place on 16th December 1942 and the "push-pull" train had just left Bramley and carried crew of three (driver, fireman, guard) and about 36 passengers. This totally defenceless target was machine-gunned and bombed by the brave enemy pilot,...

Re: the railway servng the school in 1936
The Horsham-CH-Guildford push-me-pull-you mention may have looked slightly ridiculous but it had its moment of infamy. This happened when, at some time between mid-1941 and mid-1944, it was strafed by a German fighter pilot who had nothing better to do than attack unprotected civilian targets. This ...

Re: HOUSE WAR MEMORIALS
Chaz asked: Are there any memorials for people who died in service but not during war time? The two WW2 tablets in front of Dining Hall includes the names of all those Horsham OBs who died in WW2. 199 in total, including all Services PLUS several civilians, eg, some who died in Japanese PoW camps. I...
