OLD BLUES WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR TWO

I have now completed my research into Old Blues who died in World War Two, either as a result of enemy action (which includes civilians who died as a direct consequence of enemy attack, such as bombing or execution) or who died for other reasons whilst serving in the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth...

Re: Day Pupils.

This is simply a request for clarification. Wurzel refers above to fees at another school as being, among others : "Day Boarding £7,643 * Day Pupils £6,240" Can anyone explain, please, the difference between "Day Boarding" and "Day Pupills"? The difference in the fees...

Who remembers stiff necks and chapped knees, which never seem to afflict anyone these days?

HITLER YOUTH AT HOUSIE

There is some discussion in the national Press at the moment about parties of Hitler Youths visiting England in 1937-39 to attend Scout camps, go on cycle tours, etc. I have a very clear memory of being told by my housemaster, Mr TE Archbold (Archie), in the early 1950s that at least one Hitler Yout...

Re: FOUNDATION HYMN

Concerning the Prep, I was in Prep B from 1948-49. I recall travelling up to London to attend some form of selection. Was it in Great Tower Street? There was certainly an interview and I am pretty sure there was an exam, as well. But there were no exams/interviews to go up from the prep to the Upper...

Re: FOUNDATION HYMN

What date? I think that it is 1982/3, as is stated at the top opf the screen. The reason I think this is correct is that if you look at the end of the chapel distant from the altar you will see a lot of empty pews, which would be from running down some of the boys's houses immediately prior to the a...

Leave Weekends

Could someone please satisfy my curiosity? With these leave weekends every third (or is it fourth?) week-end, what happens if the parents either live too far away (perhaps even abroad) or simply cannot afford the expense of such frequent travel? Are there any arrangements for such children to stay a...

Neil,

"The Navy --- here I know I am on dangerous ground ---"

"...in dangerous waters..." would be more appropriate in the navy's case, surely?

Thanks for that - obvious, really. I thought that it was some clever new Internet abbreviation like IMHO, FYI, OMG, etc.

Re: New User!

Officers versus sergeants. There is a rather nice story about a Gurkha regiment, where the Gurkha Officers challenged the British officers to a tug-of war. Came the great day, the rope was laid on the ground, and the two teams marched out, led by their coaches - the commanding officer and the Gurkha...

Re: Early Lent Half Term

One way the school could help itself would be by being seen to be economising a little. For example, was it really necessary to send 56 (approx) pupils plus ten adults to Australia for 23 days? This must have cost an arm-and-a-leg. It doesn't matter where the money came from, whether BSB, parental c...
