Re: Beating the Retreat

I am not sure if school lunch is available that day-maybe packed lunch if the pupils order it.It is better to get there at lunch time and take a picnic if the weather is good. Then you have time to pack the car (takes quite some time for me with three!) , say goodbyes in the house and find your optim...

Re: Parents Association

There has been some discusssion on the 'other forum' about this. There seems to be interest but it gets stuck at the distances people live from the school. Some one has to bite the bullet and be the organiser so no takers as yet .As far as I am aware there are no parent governors at CH as there are i...

Re: Parental Contribution

I can't imagine anyone in the south east has a mortgage of %12.5 of their salary!

Re: Parental Contribution

It does seem against the original ethos of the school to attract full fee payers and then offer a discount when the subsidies should go to the means tested pupils.I do accept the reality of the school being in financial difficulty but I do smell a rat here.

Re: Parental Contribution

That is absolutely true and I think that the admissions process being clouded by secrecy is part of the problem. When I was admitted in 1971 my parents had seen an advert in the Daily Telegarph which they had only recently switched to from the Daily Mirror. The advert as they read it was 'Are you po...

Re: Parental Contribution

ailurophile as usual you do explain the finer points of the financial nitty gritty so well but this was but this was eclipsed by the thought of my Maria Von Trapp outfit.I laughed so much. I agree with the points made about the mystery attached to how the fees are calculated after the school has mad...

Re: Parental Contribution

Well ,it's swings and roundabouts. I don't feel very fortunate that I only have £402 per month for food, petrol, clothes, birthdays and what ever else you can think of to spend money on. My children feel very fortunate to be at the school so what can a poor girl do? It was my choice to send the thir...

Re: Parental Contribution

My fees have gone up -no shock there but I have two so it is my own fault and when I look at what the Foundation are paying in bursaries I can't complain. This afternoon my mother and I looked at the figures and decided none of our organs were worth a light but wondered if we could sell my son into s...

Re: Parental Contribution

Just to throw another spanner into the works, I have been wondering about the effect that full fee payers and weekly boarders will have on the school in all sorts of ways .I work in an independent school and all the parents apart from a very small minority pay the full fees. They expect value for mo...

Re: Parental Contribution

Indeed Miss west would have put her foot down but the school and the Foundation are separate now . The headmaster has no influence over financial matters concerning individual pupils I think ,other than pointing them towards the Mitchel(sp?) Foundation who will give a grant of up to £1600 for pupil...

Re: Parental Contribution

Quite good for us to have stayed on topic for so long! 'Names' is a good idea for a thread in the non CH bit but if you click on the heading Parental Contributions you would wonder what had happened by now. I've had a look at the CH website and it is not in any way like the website six years ago. Th...

Re: The Official Parents' Forum

Antinous1 makes several points which are a little misleading, if I may be so bold. The school communicates very well with parents about music lessons , name tapes and the like. The information is not always read properly or does not come as instantly as the parents want it to arrive. New parents are...

Re: Speech Day 2011

I was at Speech Day last Saturday and had a fantastic day. It was everything I thought it would be and was certainly a fitting end to and celebration of, my child's years at CH which I think is what it is meant to be.There were no tears for us as it is time to leave now and she has had a wondeful ti...
