CHA January Newsletter

Post by Zoe Mitchell »

BELOW IS THE LATEST EMAIL NEWSLETTER FROM THE CHA. IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED THIS BY EMAIL AND WOULD LIKE TO DO SO, PLEASE CONTACT THE CHA OFFICE.

CHA News – January 2007

Happy New Year from the CHA, welcome to the first newsletter of 2007, keeping you in touch with all the latest news from the CHA, your fellow Old Blues and the School.

CHA Events
Online Events Gallery
You can visit the CHA website at http://www.chassociation.org/events/index.php to find out about CHA events happening across the country in 2007. At the moment, the listings for 2007 are a bit bare, with just three events currently listed. If you have organised a CHA event for 2007, or are planning to do so let the web editor know at webeditor@chassociation.org so that we can feature your activities – from monthly lunches to informal reunions - on the CHA website and let Old Blues know your plans.

Another date definite date to add to your diary is the 2007 Founder’s Day Dinner which will be held on Saturday 13th October at Christ’s Hospital. More details to follow nearer the time.

Victoria and Albert Tours
Jennifer Robinson (1’s and 7’s) has volunteered to take groups of Old Blues around the excellent Victoria and Albert museum, where she is a trained guide. Jennifer recently took a class of Grecians around the museum and they were delighted with the tour, saying afterwards that it was:
“…a highly insightful day, enjoyed by all and we are all very grateful to Mrs. Robinson for taking the time to inspire our A level projects.”
She looks forward to sharing the V&A’s treasures with groups of Old Blues. More details on the tours can be found on the website at:
http://www.chassociation.org/news/newsa ... NewsId=186 You can contact Jennifer on vandatours@chassociation.org or telephone 0208 9492111 to organise your day out with fellow Old Blues.
Carol Concert
Thanks to all of you who came along to the Carol Concert last month, it was great to see so many Old Blues at St Sepulchre’s church in London. You can check out a photo gallery together with a short report on the CHA website at:
http://www.chassociation.org/events/gal ... cert06.php
A full report will follow in the upcoming edition of The Old Blue magazine.

The Blue
The school publication is now available online to download via the CHA website at: http://www.chassociation.org/news/index.php#252
Limited numbers of the hard copy are still available for £10 from the CHA Office.

Theatre News
The theatre is being spruced up in 2007, with fresh paint, cleaned upholstery and new carpets, keeping all the charm of the original theatre but making it much smarter!
Two upcoming events not to be missed are:
Bard Fest on 6th and 7th February at 8pm, with 100 CH pupils showing four abbreviated Shakespeare plays – Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Twelfth Night and a Midsummer Night’s Dream – all completely in the round.
A double bill of two serious plays performed by CH pupils as part of their AS Level in Drama takes place on the 22nd and 23rd March – Albert Make Us Laugh and Burn. This is expected to be the most focussed and polished work at the theatre this year.
Book your tickets for these and other theatre events by contacting the Box Office on boxoffice@christs-hospital.org.uk or telephone 01403 247434.

Old Blues Rugby Club
If your new year’s resolution was to keep fit and get more exercise in 2007, perhaps you would be interested in joining the Old Blues Rugby Club? It’s a great way to keep fit and enjoy the company of your fellow Old Blues. Find out more by visiting their website at: http://www.oldbluesrfc.com/
We’ve also had an enquiry at the CHA office from a young Old Blue who is taking a gap year in France and is keen to keep up his skills in rugby, and would love to hear from any Old Blues currently based in France who could help him join a team or get a game or two. If you have suggestions, contact us at the CHA Office and we will pass the details on to him.

Sadly Deceased
We are sorry to inform you that two former members of staff passed away just before Christmas.
David Jesson-Dibley, fondly remembered by many Old Blues as an exceptional English teacher, and Miss D R West, Headmistress at Hertford from 1942 – 1972.
The funeral for Miss West will take place on 11th January at St Andrew’s Church, Alfriston in East Sussex. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to the church via Seaford and Newhaven Funeral Service. Further details about the service and Miss West’s career can be found on the website at: http://www.chassociation.org/news/index.php#251

Congratulations
Old Blues and firm friends Kathleen Stuart-Smith (née Ffinch) (4’s 1916 - 1924) and Anne Ines Louie Proctor (née Angus) (3’s 1916 – 1925) are both celebrating their 100th birthdays this month within days of each other. Congratulations to both on reaching their centenary and very best wishes from everyone at the CHA.

Warmest regards,

Zoë

The full version link was originally broken, but was fixed and works for me now...it's a very big file though, so maybe looks broken until it's finished downloading? Or, are you getting an error message?

Is this the link you're using:- http://www.chassociation.org/news/archi ... 2005-6.pdf

I amended the news item to suggest that people download the file rather than viewing it in their browsers. That way it shouldn't seem "broken" if, ahem when, it takes an age to load.
