CHA Carol Concert : 12 December 2007

Post by kerrensimmonds »

Please note a change of venue. No longer St. Sepulchre (as already advertised elsewhere...) but

ST JOHN'S WATERLOO

Adrian says that the Church is opposite the Imax Centre. Watch the CHA website (and discussion on the Forum....) but if you wish to offer your services as a soloist or reader or whatever please contact either Adrian Bawtree at Christ's Hospital, or Wendy Killner in the CHA Office.

What time is the Carol Concert please ?

Also, please advise where I can find more details. As I'm moving back to London next month I might be available to sing (Tenor) depending on the time of day and rehearsal commitments.

The last two years the Carol Concert has been at 6.00 with Choir Practice at 5.00. I'm assuming it will be the same this year.
I'm not involved in it this year, however - suggest you keep an eye on the CHA website for more information?

Deatils are not yet available but they will be on the CHA site.

Rehearsal, what rehearsal? The 'choir' turns up 3 hours early to practise and by the time of the concert they sound magnificent. (or they did last year anyway)

Three hours, Mary! More like one hour. And last year the coach bringing the musical director (Adrian) and part of the 'choir' got held up in heavy traffic coming up from Horsham. He had to do some musical directing by mobile phone to the organists, and in the end we only worked together as a group, under his direction, for about 20 minutes.....
Still, it's good to know it didn't show!

... but it's a Wednesday ....
so, once again, and even though I am now back in the UK, I will not be able to lend my voice to the throng...

They deliberately have it on the same day as the Governors' annual meeting at the Mansion House - the first year (all innocently) it was the day after, and some Govs complained that they did not want to go to London on two consecutive days. Sorry, Barbara!

Don't ask, Matt!
The booking for S S never got confirmed, so they let it go to another organisation. This was discovered two weeks' ago today.... Since the date was more important (see my other post just now) than the venue, Adrian had to do some (very) fancy footwork....

That makes sense...

it does however, beg the question of why the governors (who aren't all Old Blues) get to chose the date - for me to go, I always have to take at least half a day off... hardly convienient for many Old Blues...

I doubt i'll make it this year - work's going to be manic running up to Christmas, so don't think i can get away.
Hopefully we'll beat last year's attendance again though - it's a great fun and relaxed informal event.

Maybe Julian or Richard will raise the issue of timing when the CHA Advisory Board 'washes up' after this Carol Concert and starts to plan for the next one.

Does anyone know what the disabled access is like? ... Remembering - with deep embarrassment - having my wheelchair manhandled up and down steps by men from the church a couple of years ago
