Following up DavebytheSea's excellent idea of a section on the forum giving information about sources of help etc viewtopic.php?t=1356

I thought I'd post a bit about the BSB and what it does.

The e mail address includes the phrase "blues supporting blues" and that really sums up what the BSB does. That support takes various forms including paying pensions, grants and loans to Blues and Old Blues suffering distress or hardship and helping fund courses or training to advance careers or job prospects. The BSB also has a number of presentees at the School.

As you can see what the BSB does and seeks to do is very worthwhile and you can join by paying an annual subsription of Â£15 upwards. You can also gift aid your annual subscription thereby achieving the dual effect of increasing BSB income and ensuring some of the tax you pay goes on something useful

I would like to echo what Mid A 15 has said.

One of my friends (who was mentioned in david Farringodn's talk at the Christmas carol concert) benefited greatly from the BSB although her story ended tragically.

I can also add that the BSB is a fantastic organization, having supported me during my masters degree and now during my PhD. My understanding is that they have the ability to help a lot of Blues, yet recieve relatively few applications for assistance. Is that true, and is there anyway that the profile of this amazing organization can be raised among the Old Blue community?

I would like to post another THANK YOU to those OB's in here who took my plight to the BSB for me, since then Rowena and I have becoem very well aquainted (don't try contacting her for the next fortnight - she is on holiday in the Greek Islands) and they have already sent me some funds to keep us in the house and stabilised the drowning!

I have to say the process was much less tortuous than any other application, and although I would never have asked for myself (too stubborn or something?) I would say to anyone who has a problem, Do Not think that the BSB are hard to talk to, or are aliens - Many thanlks to you all.
