Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Anyone remember John Rendall? (late 1930s early 1940s)

Post by Reuben »

In 1992 I wandered into a tiny Belgravia pub for the first time (the Nags Head, Kinnerton St.) and was surprised to notice a black-and-white photo of two boys in C.H. uniform above the bar.

It turned out to be a wartime photo of John Rendall QC, a well-respected barrister, Old Blue, Welsh Rubgy enthusiast, and much-loved regular of that particular pub. The other boy in the photo was his brother, who had died some years before and whose name I can't now recall.

I was fortunate enough to become good friends with John, who was always delighted to meet another Old Blue, and we had many great drinking sessions over the next 11 years or so. I inherited from him a particular love of the Times crossword. John was "mostly" retired from law, but sorted out - generally pro bono - many legal disputes for the landlord and other locals.

Sadly John died back in 2003 (IIRC) but I've often wondered if any Old Blues from his generation remember him?
