CH on Google Street View

I was having a squint at CH Horsham on Google Street View the other day and was rather surprised and a little confused to note that when you're standing on the bridge over the railway (as if you were heading for Shelley's Wood) it appears to be a bright, sunny day in winter, but when you check out the road running past Doctor's Lake, it's early summer and the cow parsley is coming into bloom.

And then there's that mysterious dead zone, near the entrance to the former Home Farm farmyard, which Street View doesn't let you peruse at all, regardless of which direction you approach from. I assume that this is the point at which there's some kind of uncanny portal between winter and summer.

I thought the Street View cars only toured the UK once, but presumably they came back to CH after an earlier visit and re-scanned. If they've been making return visits to parts of the UK, why are there still so many streets in England, Wales and Scotland which they've not yet scanned?

I'm so confused.

I'm also a bit on the overweight side.

Interesting.

Meanwhile on Two Mile Ash and at Donkey Bridge, it appears to be autumn.

Curiouser and curiouser.

That may be because that's when the Google car went past and they have only just uploaded the pictures!

The 'Dead Zone' is clearly an Intergalactic Portal, or maybe a Time Warp. Either way we should be alert for unexplained disappearances in the area. It might also explain some of the stranger teachers over the years.

Sometimes I have found that a particular property does not show up as if the camera has jumped straight past.

The one taken on my brother's street shows him cutting his hedge.

Are you trying to say this is so improbable it must have come from a different reality?

No, he is quite the gardener. He even has his shirt off.

Can you see his tattoos and his moobs on Street View?

On a different tack (and for the benefit of Horsham-educated OBs), what buildings on what streets in Hertford should we be looking for on Street View in order to get the hang of CH Hertford as was?

And what of the former CH buildings in Ware?

Eh?

A Tesco store was built on what was the school field and the postcode for that is SG14 1QA, as good a place as any to start.

The backs of houses 5-8 face the car park.

Bluecoats Avenue is the name given to the square (rectangle). Main gates at the south end, school hall at the north end and four boarding houses up each side, all still there.

Very educational. Thanks a lot, missus.

Good to see that the statues on the gatepiers of the main entrance haven't (yet) had their heads knocked off by drunken rugby-players, moronic chavs or off-duty policemen.

Am I right in guessing that Billiecoat Court and the flats on the east side of South Street both occupy former CH land? And tell me, is the whole thing a private estate of some kind, hence Google Street View not having access? Or did the guy driving the Street View car simply lose his bottle?

Bluecoat Court is where our classroom block, (3 stories/4 classrooms to a floor plus a basement) and science block were.

Science block, also 3 storeys. Right hand side was labs, GF Physics, FF chemistry, second floor biology.
Left hand side. GF Geography, FF Cookery, second floor History and needlework (not in the same room).
Basement LHS shoe store RHS a night clubby sort of place which had a name which has been mentioned but escapes me at the moment.

I have no idea what was in the basement of the classroom block, book storage?

Just to the north of the classroom block was the octagonal reference library.

You can drive up Bluecoats Avenue and out the other end.

A night club, Mary? :) Sin City was an empty cellar where DR agreed to let those who wished play progressive music. I went down there once - girls were sitting in a circle around a record-player rhythmically sort-of-banging their heads to an exciting LP. I crept away again. I didn't think I was sufficiently cool.

There was a dark dusty cellar in the basement of the School Block. There was battered old furniture and book cupboards down there, with a disused loo. It was a good place to go for a cigarette, when I felt really fed up during prep. It was curiously soothing down in the depths. Nobody ever realised when I went missing.

Develop this first paragraph into a novel. You'll win the Booker Prize.

Everything Angela writes could be developed into a Booker prize winner. I just wish she would get on with it because I really want to read it.

Being interested in this Google Street Map affair, I found our house ------

There are THREE views of it, with the location of each camera shown,
on close examination, I believe one photo was taken at a different time from thre others !

Before I get accused of "Idee sur mon Garde" (!!!) I should point out that it is only a 4 bed house, with a big green hedge around it.
Perhaps the "Notorious" has rubbed off on the property ?
