Yes I saw that too, Andrew. Went off to do a little research on him. Do you remember his predeliction for oriental art?
Also I read somewhere that another contemporary, Steven Connor, is moving from his role as Profess0r of Modern Literature and Theory at Birkbeck where he has taught since 1979 to take up a post at Cambridge as Grace 2 Professor of English and Fellow of Peterhouse.

I remember Howard's own art work clearly. Including a large oil painting of a bumble bee (perhaps an early link with John Ruskin) that John Robson purcased from him. I met Howard a few years ago at Brantwood (well worth a visit if anyone is near Conniston, it's a beautiful house in a beautiful place).
