The query about the Vidal prize, made me search for details of Thomas Firmin. The Maths prize at Hertford, which I got twice, was called the Thomas Firmin one, he has his own wiki page, and I'm sure I've got the right man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Firmin He was a Governor, and buried in the cloisters.

The only thing not clear is why the prize named after him should be for Maths!

Did all the Hertford named prizes just die out at the merger? The other named prize I had was the Grinling Prize, for academic excellence or summat similar - that was one where the winners' names went on a board in the School Hall, those boards did go to Horsham.
