Dining hall Trades

Does any one remember the trade of Knife wiping in which all knives, forks and spoons had to be laid out on the table prior to each meal and specifically wiped clean with a most unsavoury looking cloth ?

nor me (and I was a trades mon). I wonder if this was in our earlier days of rationing etc because after the new supervisor crockery and cutlery seemed pretty clean

I remember no such trade, and certainly not when I was trades mon.

'Knives' just laid out the places from a large box of kfs. Lucky boys got a fork with four whole, straight prongs.
