Anyone who was at Horsham in the fifties will recognise this - but please don't tell us what memories it brings back to you. I found it among some of my old photographic stuff, used to wrap quarter-plate glass negatives.

I immediately thought: Bronco.

No, John, David means me. And I do remember - it was Colin Blogg. He had at least two large exercise books with sheets of perforated paper from diverse institutions, all mounted in true philatelic style with stamp hinges.

Can't help feeling that having 'Silk' in the name was a triumph of advertising over reality.

When did this come in ? I don't recall being provided with anything to read to while away the time ..

Certainly not the boys issue - possibly masters or (given CB's predilictions) a female staff loo ?

I remember CH-corporate Silver Silk (as the 'boys' issue'), and I also remember Bronco. Another variety had 'Now Wash Your Hands' printed on it.

I am sure that anyone who has ever been a civil servant will remember that even the loo was paper was stamped 'Government Property' - presumably to deter us from stealing it?!

I vaguely remember a special issue during the great paper shortage, printed......

I remember being intrigued when I briefly worked for a govt. department to see that while the soap was impressed with a crown, the loo paper wasn't. The thought that goes into these things...

I have a bar of soap from my days with the Civil Service with the Crown on it ( & HMSO) from when I used to work at The Land Registry at Lincoln's Inn Fields in London; as a Cartographic assistant (Clerical Officer grade) we were allowed 5 minutes at the end of each day to wash our hands from the ink stains. We were issued with a bar of soap every three months and if you were frugal, you could stockpile soap!

... or go home with inky hands ?
