A question to ponder.
Why is the Housey lad leaving church on his own, as it seems ?
Adoring Mum and aunt immediately behind him ? Big possibility.
Sorry Great Plum, but as you have already suggested about me, I do love a great conspiracy theory.

I lived in The Netherlands (not 'Holland', please note)
When I say Holland I mean Holland. I have no idea whether what I observed in Delft and Haarlem and Leiden would also be observable in Catholic Brabant or the wilds of Gelderland or the mountains of Limburg.

Michael,
I was teasing. When I served in NATO my boss was a Dutch brigadier-general who used to get very hot under the collar when Brits referred to his country as 'Holland' which they did quite often, but never more than once when he was around! His argument, which I admit seems logical, is that Holland is simply one province among several of the country known as The Netherlands.
Incidentally, I never did discover what those teacosy-like hats were - have you any idea - or, perhaps, they did not wear them were you were?

Perhaps he was passing through a post-Confirmation pious phase. It strikes me incidentally that this might not be summer, but Easter Sunday. That would explain the enormous congregation.
