John, perhaps we should adjourn to the Politics site at this point, but briefly: what we know so far of Corbyn's ideas are that he wants to increase the corporation tax back up to about 25% (Germany's is 30%), he wants the rich to pay more tax by one means or another (there is considerable support for this since the ONS tells us that the inequality index is back to Edwardian levels), he wants more public spending (again, we are back to 35% of GDP which was last seen before the war whereas the Scandinavian countries are, I believe, way above 40%), he wants more affordable housing and rent controls (who doesn't?), and he wants to gradually take the failing bits of the essential utilities (privatised by Thatcher and others) back into state control (so do those long-suffering passengers on the East Coast railway line and all those of us who can't quite suss out the Byzantine workings of rail tickets, gas water and electricity prices, and a few other things that used to be pretty simple). I don't buy the idea that he's a Trot. His ideas so far are way to the right of anything in Clem Attlee's 1945 government, and even in today's world these policies would be considered mainstream anywhere else in developed Europe.
