Likewise.

I suppose that the need for lots of 'study bedrooms', other private areas etc. has dramatically eaten into the available space.

I also noticed in The Blue that an overspill houses for girls, named 'Hertford', was set up in the infirmary.

Anyone know how many pupils now live in one of the refurbished houses?

The numbers in a refurbished house do not seem to have been reduced as much as one might think - I suppose that the loss of the dayrooms (almost universally opposed by staff and students alike from all accounts) has made up a little for the reduction of space elswhere. I had the impression that there were about 48 students in each house but the Jonathan's house number is 53 so perhaps there are one or two more.

An average of 50 per house would give a total of 800, but then there are the grecians' residences .........

I believe there are meant to be c. 45 students per house and then 70 ish in each Grecians house...

This is Hertford's last year - once Thornton turns into a girl's house, Hertford will not exist...

The new system should produce the following :

16 avenue houses of 44 - 7 per years 7-11 and 9 in year 12, i.e. 2 extra children join each house at Deputy Grecian level.

2 Year 13 houses of 72.

This leads to 704 in the avenue houses and 144 in the Grecians houses, giving the total of 848 pupils. When the refurbishment programme is finished there will be 424 boys and 424 girls.

There is a wonderful symmetry to it all. East and West.
