Thanks for that, good evidence for Richard Ruck's theory about balancing packs.
Going to the commando memorial a week on Sunday at Fort William to watch my father march past (all in their 80s now but love putting on the green beret/ and drinking whisky see if I can keep up with them).
There's normally some big wigs turn up so I will watch out for Buster and Roger (he was sometimes called Pongo but so were all his brothers I seem to remember).

looks like "Pongo" is at least a Major General now serving with NATO's rapid deployment forces in Italy (Nov. 2003).

he had some rough press from suits at the MoD during the Afghanistan "mop-up operations".....mention of a smear campaign against him.....

......but got recognition a Bronze Star from the Americans though - which is a apparently rather good.

mmm.....careful......
I think I can see where this is leading! I will now retract my request to become a HOB, I sincerely apologise if I have offended anyone, that was not my intention. I am also sorry that my genuine interest in CH is seen as 'odd'. Is it so strange that a person wants to find out about experiences that he would have liked to have had, given the chance? Is it odd to want to learn about traditions that go back over 400 years? Is it odd that I may in some ways be jealous I suppose, that you were able to attend CH and that all I wanted to do was to open a dialogue with people who were wiling to share some of those experiences with me? I would like to know the difference between 'a strong desire to become associated with the place' and 'taking a deep and understandable interest'.
Yes, I do have a fascination for CH, but not for the reasons inferred above. The reason I asked about pupils and ex-pupils was because I am completely new to this site and didn't know who it was aimed at. I have since learned it is aimed at Old Blues. I have messaged numerous people in the hope they can tell me more about the school. If this is deemed unacceptable behaviour then I will gladly leave these boards.
The only good thing to come out of this is that 2 people voted for me, and I offer them my sincere thanks.

Shoz, it's not the 'interest' which is odd - far from it. C.H. is a very interesting subject.

It's the seeming desire to somehow jump straight in and be 'associated' with C.H. which might seem to some to be a little unusual.

As I suggested on another thread, why not tell us a little more about yourself?

We are inquisitive people as well, you know!

2 votes.....do you mean you voted for yourself then? I say....

....and as for inferences, well I'm sorry if they were misplaced.

I think all responsible adults are alert to where possible cyber contact with minors could lead and thus you have to forgive our vigilance.

3 votes actually, and yes I did vote for myself.
Of course I fully recognise the dangers about cyber contact, but if I had wanted that I would have said I was 16 or something.

Squits aren't cute. I don't know if they ever were, but nowadays (ok, a few years ago) they realised that older people couldn't do anything anymore after the SMT got all righteous, and there was almost no way in hell you could stop them from misbehaving (except for independent disciplinary action *ahem*).
