Silly things you did at school that could have killed you
I used to spend hours drifting dreamily back and forth at the top of a tall pine tree outside the back of Barnes B. One day, to see what would happen, I decided to fling myself out from my perch.
I should have died, I suppose, but merely crashed down through all the branches until I reached the ground very bruised and cut up but still alive.
I don't think the idea of suicide or anything dramatic made me do it. I was a little boy who just wanted to try something out.
Later in life there were other interesting risks to take but those are not relevant here.

As part of the Civil Defence demonstration for the General's inspection we would lower a member of the platoon on a stretcher (with somebody strapped on to guide the stretcher) from the roof over Lamb A stairs down the outside to the ground. Never a buise etc.
OTOH, in the gym I was swinging on a horizontal bar (far higher than my head) when my hands slipped and I ended up flat on my back from 7 feet; ouch.
Anothert time, in winter, we used to slide on the ice from Col A hoping that the crash into Mid B would not be too hard. I fell on my back and it was excruciating to breathe for weeks after. Couldn't get permission to go to the sicker because there were no outwardly visible symptoms.
I still have great problems with my back (and sometimes breathing) but the NHS refuses to treat so called sports injuries.

What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!

On my seniors, one of my friends (who will remain nameless - but he is now an officer in the Artillery) decided to go out on the quiet room roof of Maine A through the Lav End windows.
It had been snowing and he thought it would be a good idea to throw snowballs from up there...
He slipped and fell backwards through a sky light landing on a computer - amazingly he was relatively unhurt with just a few cuts...

With the old individual iron and wooden desks, it was possible to play trains.
This involved the person at the back moving into the aisle and shuffling up to the front whilst everyone else moved back. It was normally done when the teacher left the room but was attempted once with the teacher in situ.
During the winter we took flasks of coffee into classes, and one unfortunate dropped his flask spilling all the contents and the game.
There was also a nonentity league, which I could never understand since if you were in the league, you obviously weren't a nonentity.
Most of this took place in deps and first year grecians years, if memory serves me right.
Teachers involved were Biddick, Bibby and Tom Keely, when he fell asleep.

Jokes! Some of those stories are pretty funny I have to say..! I can't think of any outstanding ones that have happened recently, but I did hear that last year someone climbed out of the window in Grecians' onto the roof for a sneaky browns. Ended up slipping, caught foot in the gutter, and fell head first. OUCH! And I also noticed a while ago that there was a karebina and sling hanging from Big School....hehe
