Does a room (off the dormitory heading towards matron's office on the left) still exist full of spare coats? Memory is faint, but were they handed out for special occasions - Speech Day, St. Matthews Day if your coat was unpresentable.
My main memory of this room is as follows:
1. Go to Grecian's Club
2. Top up intake unofficially after Grecian's Club
3. Wander around in the dark
4. Get chased by Tom Keeley
5. Fall over during escape to Big Side
6. Return to house
7. Awake to coat covered in mud
8. Distract matron (needs accomplice)
9. Procure key to spare coat room
10. Switch muddy coat for clean
11. Distract matron
12. Return key
13. Heave huge sigh of relief
14. Worry about discovery of muddy coat, before you can regain entry to room and try and clean it/or, hope you get away with it and eventually forget all about it.
Matrons in houses habitually possess a few coats still. My experience is that of the new houses, where these would hang up in full view and easy access in the middle-ladies room which runs off the right of Matron's office (which of course is now on the top floor of the houses).
There was a series of posts on it in the last few days..can't find it though. Uniform is now only for lessons, marching and outside events. Breakfast and lunch too. Not tea though...
Also for Theatre stuff, when the event is open to the public...
