I only had ever one detention, from DR.
We had to learn some verses of a psalm (I think) for prep and as I was in ther middle of a good book I read that instead.
Next RE lesson we each had to recite said verses and muggins was told to go first. I 'told the truth and shamed the Devil' and got a detenetion for my honesty.
Of course by the time everyone else had recited it I was word perfect, which I proved, I still had to do the detention though, learning another few verses.

I think I got two in 9 years. The first I forget but the second was a laugh; it was given by a master in his first term out of uni and I was simply one member of a chemistry class which got detention en masse.cj wrote:I never had a detention or a drill in my seven years at CH.
Slight problem; he was my junior house master, I was trades monitor and, come hell and high water (and Asian Flu) the trades monitor had, absolutely had, to be in dining hall for trades. Slight problem; trades were at the same time as the detention; trades won
Stupid a**ehole. He had instructed us to make aniline dye and gone out of the lab. The process involves N30 NaOH (sodium hydroxide) which is just about as nasty a common chemical as you can get hold of (we had to make it to get it that strong). Explosion (accidental) ; two boys covered in boiling NaOH so we merely thoroughly doused them with water. The floor was swimming; their clothes were burnt off them but they got away with reddening of the skin. The master came back, added 2 + 2 and got 50 and gave everyone detention. By the time he ascertained what had happened he couldn't back out of the punishment! I know Kit Aitken had a go at him over that.
What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!

It helps if no-one expects you to break the rules ie. you do it for your own benefit, not because you want people to think you are a rebel. You can get away with a lot more. All I am prepared to say is that the offences would have resulted in immediate expulsion if caught. I made it by the skin of my teeth on a couple of occasions, but was probably not worried about the outcome at that time. That's all, folks - I have my reputation to think about!!
