I'm assuming you are a pupil so I'll be careful but yes - in each boarding house and at the back of dining hall - but you'll need a key!

"Most" ----- ? -- ONE fibre of Crocidolite (Blue) or Amosite (Brown) can develop little growths around the sharp ends, and SOME of these can develop into Mesethemiola, which is cancer of the lung lining --- inevitably fatal !

I'm sorry to be so specific, and the Moderator may wish to delete this, but I do care about the "General Ignorance" of this menace.

I watched a colleague, who was one of the physically fittest 50 year olds I have known die within a matter of months from mesothelioma, it was 20-30 years after having worked in the ship yards.
Just not worth the risk.

Absolutely not.

My film star crush of my teen years, Steve McQueen, died of mesothelioma having worked for only about six months with asbestos. (Ship-building I believe).

EDIT: Sorry if I have confused everyone, I 'edited NTNs original instead of quoting it, but I think I have sorted it out now.

i wonder what my chances are - when I was i think between my 2nd and 3rd form my step dad decided to move an old AGA (type "f" from memory - square front edge/ solid fueled / triangular bottomed firebox door) from our old kitchen to our new extension. While being moved through the house on a series of rollers the top metal plate lifted off the main body - the bottom 60% of inside of the AGA around the various ovens and firebox was full of a blue grey type powder which billowed out a bit.

I don't know how to find out if it was asbestos but if it was then what had been the kitchen became my sisters bedroom and the room it billowed out in our "playroom / tv room" complete with the same carpet.

Nowt i can do about it now anyway i guess

EDIT

XXXXX DON,T WORRY ABOUT ME FINALLY GOT ROUND TO GOOGLING AND APPARENTLY IT IS FULLERS EARTH NOT ASBESTOS XXXXXXXXXXX

You would hardly believe the number of worried people, whom I have beenable to re-assure, presenting samples of ----- Mineral wool, Glass wool (They differ)
Animal hair, Coconut fibre (The only one thicker at one end than the other) and general nasty bits of dead animal ------- :?

However, as has been said --- "Better to be sure" !!

Sorry, really can't encourage or support responding to this.

The aim of the forum is partly to reminisce, but as responsible (usually!) Old Blues we try to support the school and the staff, and wouldn't want to be seen to be actively undermining rules.

Whilst it may not have asbestos, there are still dangers down there, especially if alone.
(Worth watching "127 Hours" film.....!)
