This reminds me of the predicament of art critic John Ruskin. (Back to 1848...)

Ruskin, according to art legend, having been brought up appreciating smooth white classical statues, was aghast to find that his new bride Effie Gray, had pubic hair. Eeuch! The marriage was never consummated, and after a few years, Effie ran off with Ruskin's great mate John Everett Millais.

The shock of the pubic hair caused Ruskin to fall into a decline from which he never quite recovered. Although I think - but correct me - that he rallied after some time to fall in love with an eleven year old called (??) Rose La Touche.

Shame nobody thought to tuck a Victorian equivalent of Health and Effie-ciency into his attaché case...

(Sorry to bore anybody with this well known story!)

To judge by my recent experience of clothing-optional beaches (to use the preferred North American term), it's been disinvented, even by men. Weird.
