Something Mr Notorious Neill posted about a chap called Lucy made me think this might be mildly interesting for a while.

My surname is Underwood. What was my nickname at CH?

Deadly

My surname is Hopgood and at CH I was smaller than the rest of my year. I inherited a nickname from Mike Hilliard and then my brother took it one when I left.
Anyone guess my nickname, and if so, it's origin?

Skipwell?

I used to claim that Derek Underwood (ex England spin bowler for members under about 45) was my uncle. Nobody believed me.

Under Milk Wood was only ever used by staff... now there's a surprise!

Hang on, it couldn't be as obvious as 'Titch', could it?

I would have been happy if it were, but no.

'Hilliard' is confusing me - presumably it has nothing to do with your name...?

No, he was just the previous "owner" of the nickname.
I have actually "googled" it but the result gives me no clue to its origin, which led me to believe that it was exclusive to Housey.

Then I give up!

One of my (thankfully short-lived) nicknames was Lester - why?

Because you liked plenty of food?

(Lester) PIGgott?

Was EA right with Derek btw? That would have been my guess.

My nick-name, (in Coleridge B only), was 'Tetley'.

There is a reason.

Over indulgence in the brew of that name on a trip combined with the similarity to your surname?
