The Grecians' Ball

What was your ball like?

The 1999 ball was a bit of a farce really.

It was the first year that they had moved the rock concert from the last night of term to the Saturday before, bringing the Ball to the last evening...

This meant that most people were relatively reluctant....

However, the evening started off well, with Tom Ryder-Smith turning up in a 19070's Aston Martin and Chris Collings in a horse and trap at the Head's house.

I must have had a bottle of champagne there... *hic*

We then moved onto the thai themed food in a marquee by the theatre (the beer was rank).

During this time, we were serenaded by Harry (the jazz pianist - of vague fame) and his trio.

However, due to there being a relatively high member of the Foundation on my table whom I fell out with in regard to houses over the green and pleasant lands I left after the main course and went to the UF, GE and deps disco. Withion half an hour over 80% of my year were there...

When I got back to the theatre, it was carnage with only about 10 people remaining...

I remember being really disappointed in that evening...

The last night was better though afterwards.... :)

The one that's not a dance, but an auction?

Well, I was near enough.

Still a bit of gin in the system I think. :)

Stop hijacking my thread...

I also put the apostrophe in the title in the wrong place... *sigh* - can a mod amend it for me?

Did share a ball with a girls school from Haselmere when I was there. I even got an invite to share a ball at their place as well.

So did all the Grecians go over to that school then?

I found our Grecians' Ball all a bit tedious and dull actually. All that hype and really all it was was a Saturday night on a Thursday with an expensive frock and bad tiramasu.

Best bit was Brickell playing dance with the devil and that was very, very good.

We didn't all go over there, I got an invite but it wasn't a good idea, I've been to some posh dos but this one took the biscuit, I'm still mentally damaged.

I vaguely remember our Grecians ball in 1988 - when I say "vaguely" all I can actually bremember is being walked back to BaB by one of the Gardner twins

my grecians ball was one of the best nights ever! it was in 2002 and was in big school, there were loads of pretty balloons there and goldfish on the table.

i got sooo drunk. we had generous teachers on our table who bought loads of wine, we danced the night away and i was hideously hungover the next day.

such good memories of that night.

From what I remember the 2003 Ball being fantastic, I think

Teachers plied us with horrendous amounts of alcohol

The Walshes did tell my mum to keep an eye on me on the last day of term though - they were surprised I'd made it through prize giving (and even managed not to fall on my arse on the way down) and then the leaver's service. Oh dear, I have never felt so ill. And I blame Mr Adlam

Was beautiful though
