You could always do a bit of on-line research, e.g. do notices in, say, South Wales tend to be more 'flowery and gushing' than those in, perhaps, Newcastle?
Could be time-consuming, but might be revealing......
And yep, I'm using the obits at the back of the paper in the family notices bit. The ones in the broadsheets aren't what you might call 'revealing' in the way that I need.
