HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WOMAN?

Image

I need your help people!

This is Shami Chakrabarti - spokeswoman for human rights organisation Liberty and omnipresent face on UK news programmes.

I have nothing against her per se - just that she is ALWAYS on the television (she even managed to get on Have I Got News For You earlier this year). As I write this she has just been on BBC London News during a piece about 7/7 and she was on the news yesterday about the extradition of 3 Natwest employees.

What I would like you to do is post on this thread whenever you see her on the television. Please start your post with the SIGHTING number (i.e. if you include my 3 sightings above the next one will be SIGHTING No.4). Hopefully we can build up a picture over the next few months of how much airtime she's getting. No doubt she'll not like us monitoring her but as she is want to point out at every given opportunity this is a free country!
My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We’ll see about that.

Because it's hilariously funny.

Will we earn Shami points? What will we be able to redeem them against?

JR - I don't know for certain that she's friends with Fiona. However her constant appearances on all manner of news items right across the vast range of terrestrial & digital channels leads me to suspect that she maintains at least cordial relations with all the top news readers.

BTaylor - I hadn't thought of Shami points but what a fabulous idea! Let's issue 1 point per sighting and we can then have a league table. Prizes are a little crude I think - I'm sure that the kudos and respect that would ensue from gathering points would be sufficient enough reward!

Midget - if you don't want to play that's fine. It's just a bit of fun!

Get spotting people!!!

She even has my placid husband shouting "Get that woman off my screen". Seriously though what is it about her that is so annoying?

I vote for double points if you spot Fi and Shami in the same bulletin. If they're standing side by side then you get 50 bonus points.

When I was back in the UK in December, a friend of mine took me to a ballon debate, the title of which was "who is the greatest person in human rights history?". My friend's boss was presenting for Mandela and shami here was supporting Martin Luther King. I went in thinking I would vote for the aforesaid civil rights hero of the US but this woman changed my mind. She comes across as arrogant and snobby, and belittles anyone who disagrees with her. When members of the audience asked about some of MLK's more audacious, anti-islamic statements, she essentially announced that she couldn't be bothered answering the question. Not an ambassador for the oppressed IMHO. More like an argumentative media-fiend.

Agreed! Although were Fiona to be on the screen all my attention would be directed at her and I might not notice Shami...

Can I just say in response to some of the other comments that I have nothing against Shami. I just think she happens to be on the television A LOT and I thought that be asking people to post their sightings of her this might confirm or disprove my suspicions. And it would be a fit of fun...
