Just a thought...
...which might help us keep organised...
Threads have a habit of going off on a tangent, as discussed at length recently. How about getting the mods to colour such threads a vividly different colour so that one can see at a glance which threads are worth joining, and which have now descended into general chat.
Sound plausible?
That way, people who love to waffle absolute rubbish can do so, and those (particularly registered but non-posting) members can contribute in a relevant way, and not have to trawl through 2987 topics to find one which is still on course.
Ideas, criticisms etc please.....

Nice idea, Hendrik, but could you copy it on to Julian's thread about all this?

this was tried and it failed. firstly, some poor mug would have to trawl the forum 24/7 moving rediculous posts to the rediculous thread. it doesn't descend into general chit chat because there are no threads designated for chit chat, it does so because certain keywords (different for each person) seem to spark "back in my day" comments and in-jokes. "beer", "sex", all the usual FHM topics really.Great Plum wrote:True...
How about a chat thread which is started every day and most of the chatter could stay in there?
and if something comes back on topic, then the colour could change back. simple really.
any other criticisms?

The text of the topic could be changed (within the post), but no way of colouring a topic in the list of topics.....so although a great idea, this isn't that easy......and it relies on Mods spending quite a bit of time changing topics.
I'm still in favour of the the CH Stuff section having to stay reasonably on-topic, whilst letting the non-CH stuff drift off-topic?

I'm in favour of anything off topic being deleted. Its fine if you've got lots of time to spend here, but if you don't then alot of the stuff is of little interest.

That seems fine to me...jtaylor wrote:The text of the topic could be changed (within the post), but no way of colouring a topic in the list of topics.....so although a great idea, this isn't that easy......and it relies on Mods spending quite a bit of time changing topics.
