Having just left AOL (which has its own browser) and now getting used to the default IE, this comes up.

I would be interested to have people's comments on which they find the most useful.

I use Firefox and have even downloaded it onto my Apple. It has lots of add ons that you can add or not according to your requirements. It is also pretty stable. It is a pretty heavy memory user if running something that is continually updating.
I have also tried Google Chrome, which has the advantage that each screen loads individually for the computer memory, although they can be seen at the same time as tabs. When you close a tab, it releases memory, something that doesn´t happen quickly in Firefox.

I use Firefox too, since a warning a year or so ago about how vulnerable IE is to hackers, malware etc. Not that other browsers are immune but MS is always a particular target. I'd agree with John about add-ons - I have a nice script that filters out Facebook stuff that I don't want to see.

A while ago it was crashing regularly but (touch wood) it's pretty stable now. It's either some housekeeping I've done on my PC, or a Firefox update. I also like Chrome, though it has a couple of things that annoy me, such as no Print Preview. My IT-savvy friends say it is much less memory-hungry. I don't use it very often - I used to go to it when Firefox was crashing more regularly.

I wouldn't readily go back to IE.

I have been using IE since Widows 98 (?) or earlier --- now on PC.
I do get trouble with spam Emails, inviting me towards "Male Extensions" --- but I don't thimk I would get Planning Permission, and certainly objections from my neighbours !!
Seriously, what does infuriate me, are the constant telephone calls offering help with my debt problems --- I have NO debts and NO problems -- and, although I have a filter, which prevents people calling me, who do not give their number, to be retrieved by 1471 --- it does NOT apply to overseas calls ------ hence the "Bombay Accents"

I don't suppose there is anything I can do -- other than saying "Just a moment" and putting the 'phone down until they stop wasting their money and ring off.

I use either Firefox or Safari. Have been using Firefox for about 5 years now. Both browsers are far more functional and "less clunky" than IE - which also has the most viruses written for it. Have to use IE at work and hate it. Would def recommend you try another one.

I have downloaded Google Chrome and it is running at at least twice the speed of IE, and does not use as much processing power (an important consideration for me). Now I just need a fast connection.

Another Firefox fan here... I have not found anything better - Yet!

I would say anything but IE: it still is vulnerable to many attacks and is not compliant with some key aspects of web protocol that create problems.

I've been with I.E. since day one without any major problem.

Must be ageist, as Neill suggests - I am also wary of changing. If I don't like it will I know how to change back? I have only experienced IE, so no idea if it is good, bad, or indifferent, relatively speaking. On the whole 'if it ain't broke, why fix it?'!

My boss (aged 40) hasn't got a clue what I am talking about.

You don't lose IE if you use another (unless you want to.)

Neill you need to register with the Telephone Preference Service http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/
It's free and it's illegal for cold callers to ring you if you're registered. Any that do will ring off very quickly when they realise. Been registered 4 years now and only had 3 unwanted calls. You can register mobiles too

Telephone Preference Service is great, but it doesn't stop calls purporting to be from overseas.
