You've lost me. My PC (windows OS) seems to back up automatically pretty often. We are subject to frequent power cuts and if I have been reading something on HTML then restarting Mozilla means that the screen is opened within about 15 lines of where I had got up to. Word processing is the same but in neither case have I set any instructions. Ergo, I don't think that Apple is any different.
