Ok - I'd better come out of the closett now I guess.......

I was in 1y (which was for WISE!!!)

we had the novice teacher straight from college for maths (Mr White), and somehow you just KNOW who is going to be easy to tease....

If you remember we all had inkwells - ours were still being used for our fountain Pens (Lummy if you didn't have a fountain pen!! ) and.....

errrrrrrrr.....................

well..................

I joined in.........

flicking in k at the back of his jacket as he walked past, and reduced our erasers to the most tiny pieces which were used to flick at him........

I'm now very embarrassed and going back to bed!

Hertford ladies did you have the heartford hymn when yiou were there and do you remember it?

AMY!!!!!!!
Did you not have to learn 7 verses of Latin? Have you read the carmen? it's at the start of this topic - which was going to be binned! After all there had been no posts in months! I am shocked that you don't know the best tune to sing rhubarb and custard to!

Jude,

If I've understood Julian correctly it is only Non CH Stuff that might get the chop so the contents of the Hertford section should be safe!

You poor deprived child. No Latin? How do you understand grammar? And while I'm ranting, did you not have to learn the Carmen (Votum to you)? If you arrived in the LIV you had to know it by Christmas, and if you were younger than that, by the end of the summer term.

Rhubarb and custard? Can't see how that fits.

In my day (65-70) it was Bacon and egg and sau-sa-ges.

Bacon and eggs and sausages

Post by Liz Jay »

Hi Caroline

Bacon and eggs and sausages fits perfectly and was what my housemarm Julia Somebody (name escapes me!) told me to sing if I dried up with the Latin verses.

I did wonder what would happen if the fry up versions began to outnumber the rest but it never seemed to happen!

Did anyone learn it (Votum) at Horsham post DHN arriving (1970)?

Think that they did earlier than 1970 (in that there were people who seemed to know it). Probably just another case of Hertford leaving the C19th later....
Not sure if either those who were either good at Latin or singing had to learn it :?:
