I'm bumping this because someone asked me about it (& couldn't find it) and because I'd still like an answer as to whether it can be moved to the Parents section. Or copied? or linked? or something!

It`s New Entrants Day on Sunday 27th April, so there may be lots of new parents viewing this site!

Hello all and warm greetings

Joined today after leaving my (only) child at CH. Now sitting in bed browsing this site, crying buckets and cuddling the pyjamas my little treasure wore last night! So good to know that this site is here, but am a little confused. No recent postings here and a reference to posts being moved to the New Parents section, but IT inadequacies have scuppered my attempts to find this. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Very encouraging (and sometimes a little alarming) to read all the contributions - am hoping to reciprocate once the emotional hurricane has diminished to a category 2 or below. Sniff.

In solidarity with newbie CH parents everywhere.............

Hello and welcome to you

You have got one of the worst bits over with and you caan rest ssured that your chlid wll be so busy and excited that they won't have time to think of how you are feeling. I know it's hard but my advice would be, for what it's worth, not to let your child know that you are suffering as it will make it hard for them to settle if they are worrrying about you.I believe there is sitll a rule that they can not contact parents for three weeks but you can write to them. Try to be cheerful and tell them news and funny stuff.
Don't be too alarmed about what you read on here. Once you get use to it you will see that there are all sorts of people with all sorts of opinons -just like the real world-and sometimes there are some out bursts and rantings. The forum is very inclusive which is great thing anad what ever it is, it isn't ever dull! It is also worryingly addictive; I am thinkng of starting a Rehab thread...

I echo nastymum, Welcome

I would think the fact that there are no recent posts on here should be reassuring, all the hubbub from last year has settled down.

Would be good to hear huggermugger's thoughts on her child going back for the second year.

My second year uni student is going back this weekend (she is going to be a student warden so has to go back a week before freshers for some training) and I have this week off work. We have been bonding over a shared love of Star Trek Voyager and Next Generation, she practically sits in my lap and holds my hand..

Hello all & a particular hello to pangurdubh and big hugs :goodman:

I just wrote a really long reply to you and then lost it when I tried to submit it... let this be a lesson to me (&others?) to press the save button!

I am going to PM you later but rest assure that you are indeed in the right place (this topic was moved here when this new section was created ) and unless you threw your child kicking & screaming out of the car at CH, then I strongly believe that he/she is in the right place as well. My DS (Dear Son) is now extremely well settled and when I was a damp, sobbing, spineless pile in front of the computer this time last year it was the love and support which I found here that got me through. (Hugs to all of you as well - YKWYA!)

Coincidentally I have to trundle off to CH today in order to drop off a trumpet to my DS - we never quite mange to remeber to put everything in the car but usually I can send it by post... but I will return here later so goodbye for now... it's useless to say don't worry but it does honestly get easier...

Welcome to Pangurdubh.

Many of the more lurid contributions have been made by Old Blues of the fifties, sixties and seventies.

CH has changed beyond recognition since then and, as Huggermugger will tell you, become far more effective at handling issues such as bullying than in the "good old days."

Hi Pangurdubh

Speaking as a parent with one year under her belt (BTW where did that year go?), I want to say that every parent with a child at CH knows what you are going through, but it really does get better. I didn't think I'd ever get used to saying goodbye after leave weekends/holidays, but on the journey home on Sunday I realised I hadn't cried at all! In fact, I was feeling really happy because I knew she was happy to be back with her friends and her hectic but very enjoyable life.

Sending you hugs.....

Dear All

Thank you all so much for your helpful and warm responses. As yet, no news of the boy, but have written three letters already (!) and live in hope of an email or letter arriving any day now. A parent of another boy in my son's house has been in touch and tells me that he has heard nothing either, despite being an Old Blue from the same house, and I find myself rather selfishly reassured by that.

Do hope that other parents are managing the transition back to school without too much trauma - I shall be letting other parents of the new intake know about the forum as I'm sure it's an invaluable source of information and support to many.

Would love to hear more stories of the CH experience from other parents, pupils and Old Blues when anyone has the time.

Very best wishes to all

Hi all,
I have 'lurked' on this forum for most of 2008. I have been registered on here for a few months, always with the intention of posting one day. I would like to use my first post to thank all the posters on here. This forum has provided me with an invaluable and unique insight into many aspects of the school. Our DS will be the first, in our family, to experience boarding school or a private education of any sort. So as you may imagine, reading through the many threads has been eye opening, scary and comforting in equal measures. So once again, a HUGE thanks to all the regular posters.

Welcome to the forum. I bet my mother never shed a tear when I went to CH-- she'd got used to me being away as I was evacuated for 4 years ,then went home when they moved out of London. We were just getting used to one another again when I went to CH. Maybe that is why I put down roots quickly when I move house. We've been in Devon for23 years, which is the longest I have stayed in one house.
