Swine flu - school closing for a week

I had a call from my DS earlier today to tell me that I will have to go and pick him up tomorrow as the school is closing for a week due to over 100 kids having swine flu... wasn't absolutely sure whether this was a vicious rumour but have checked the school website just now and it is on there under "noticeboard". Apparently house parents will be phoning us later today. Happy days!

Yes, confirmation here as well - all a bit of a nightmare as the Band are due at the Lord Mayor's Show tomorrow

Not sure I want them home!!!!

Would it not make more sense to quarantine it within the school instead of spreading it all over the country?

That would be my choice Frances but I think there are too many members of staff/houseparents now to provide cover and the Infirmary is full.

Hopefully Mrs C will be along to give us an update

Yes - my DS said there were "loads" of the staff down with it. I have to say I'm quite pleased he's coming home - an unexpected pleasure!

Think it's a bit late to stop it from spreading all over the country - it's already here....

From what I`ve heard there are now too many pupils ill in house and the Health Centre for staff to cope, as academic and pastoral staff are now also going down with it.
those who are currently in isolation may be staying on at school until their isolation period is up.
Haven`t been into HC this afternoon or seen Mr C for updates so I don`t know any more

Letter from HM on website says that those who are "too sick to travel" will be able to stay in the health centre until they are better.

Both mine sent home now, one yesterday, one today. The youngest is very ill and there is a good chance she'll be going into hospital to be put on a drip to hydrate her. Her heart is racing and her temperature won't come down. I'm sorry, but there is no way I'd have her in quarantine at school when she is feeling like this, she needs her mum!

YOu`re quite right, caring as we are in school, they need their mums when they`re not well

All I can say is "best wishes to all of you and to your children".

I was in CH for the Asian Flu epidemic in the late 1950's when on one day Col A had 4 people NOT confined to bed! AFAIR we didn't feel like food and had plenty of water; even matron was ill.

I was diagnosed with Mumps two days before the end of Term, and spent most of the Easter Holiday in the Sicker !

I am glad to tell you that I suffered no side effects !!!

I'm quite excited about having an extra week with my daughter at home. I won't be feeling like that if she comes down with it and is ill though!

Just as well I've still not got a job though!

I wonder if I can't get a part refund on fees though

I hope those already ill make a speedy recovery we're a relatively healthy family but I do worry for those with other health concerns.
