What do all the abbreviations mean?

Apologies if there is already a similar thread, I've tried to have a look but couldn't see anything.

As a newbie CH parent and member to the forum I noticed that there are a lot of abbreviations etc used both by the school and the forum. Some of these I understand, I'm really not that daft honest, however some are a real mystery although as I find out their meaning I'm sure I'll kick myself.

With this in mind I wondered if there was room for a thread where we could create a sort of glossary of terms, abbreviations etc where people can list the ones they've come across along with their meaning, or ask for a little help in deciphering CH speak.

So to get the ball rolling, and I'm going for the grass root stuff here, what does DD and DS stand for?

And my offering:-

Dep, I believe stands for Deputy Grecian.

I knew there would be a certain amount of self kicking involved starting this thread! Hangs head in shame! :D

Correct.

Then there's LE, which is Little Erasmus (year 9), UF is Upper Fourth (year 10), GE is Great Erasmus (year 11), but maybe you already knew those ones.

(changed it to Little now, so I can stop  )

I was well and truly ticked off by my dd on Wednesday for saying "Lower Erasmus" when it is Little Erasmus ... It was swiftly followed by a look only a pre-teen can give you that pretty much says "oh, don't you know anything?"!

BFD - Big Friendly Dep (Deputy Grecian)

Thanks to Pibble I now know TP is theology and philosophy.

There's the issue of CH slang too - my dd came home from her residential exam talking about Broadies (belts) and a whole host of other stuff! Thank heavens she got in as she could already talk the talk!

at least cupcakesmum's daughter didn't shock the family by admitting she needed to wear a girdle

Writing about girdles ( not usually broadies), don't forget "spadge"
