Does anyone know where to buy a school scarf.....and how much one is?

65 years ago Housey scarves were hand knitted by indulgent grandmothers. They were made up of alternate squares either of blue and yellow or blue and orange wool. The object was to see whose scarf was the longest. My 6 footer was a babe compared to some. Also essential to have them made double thickness to ensure that one end could be opened up and used as a comforter on the head whilst braving bad weather and snow and low temperatures in Big School films. I felt I had to send this as you were getting no help in answer to your original request. JHGS

Get the needles out. The scarf should go twice around the neck with enough left to tuck both ends into the girdle and allow for growth to six foot plus (and a much thicker neck).

Looks like I will have to get knitting.
The school sent home a letter saying only school scarf (or plain navy or black I think) could be worn but I can't find out where a school scarf can be found.
As he is now a Grecian he'd quite like one as it is something he can keep for the future

So what happened to the 'official' scarf of the 50's ? It had to be obtained from John Lewis. Woolen, long and blue with yellow bands on each end. When did this drop from being part of the 'official' school uniform ?

Yes - As, I have stated before, I still have mine.

My DS bought a school scarf during his first year at CH (2005--6). ISTR he bought it through the tuck shop and it cost £5. It's hand-knitted, and I think a member of staff was making them to order. Of course, that was in the good old days when the tuck shop wasn't run for profit by a faceless big business...

Mrs Holdsworth still knits them to order. She made over 120 in the summer holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, JR. I don't know the good lady's history but how can you really condemn her thus when very possibly she was not educated at CH.

I think it's something they put in the water, David.

I emailed the school office regarding this and received no reply.

I find that a bit odd, Yada ! I always get responses from the office, both by e-mail and telephone.

I hope DS didn't spend the scarf money on illicit tuck !

It was the holidays JR so might have got missed. I will try again.
Expect the money is long gone though
