CA at the front and then at the rear.

These pictures came to light during a recent house move.
When I first looked at them I could name maybe a dozen or so.
As I started to write them down I can probably remember about 25%.

Why is every old photo of St. Matts day seem to be taken on a bridge?!
We didn't cross a bridge in the 5 years I was there!

The train used to arrive at London Bridge Station which is south of the Thames. The bridge offers a number of places where a photographer can get up high to take a "good" shot - easier than elsewhere on the route.

I don't think Blackfriars existed when I was at CH, Waterloo was too far and as for marching from Victoria, that would have caused even more traffic chaos.

Blackfriars was opened inthe 1880s. It suffered extensive bomb damage during WWII.
I believe it was closed for several years in the early 1970s.

From memory, Col B facing the camera from left: half of me, Dunning, Hudson, Bingham, not sure maybe Turner, Polley, Mr Buck at head of table.

Christian names left out to avoid controversy, nicknames left out to avoid others' embarrassment!

I seemed to remember hearing horrific tales about Mr Buck during my days in Col. B. ('Bogey' Fryer era.)

Didn't he have the reputation of being the hardest 'beater' in the school ?

LOWEST PIC

The lowest pic shows one future Rear-Admiral (Bawtree) and one future Major-General (Stone) and if my memory serves me aright the chap with glasses on the left side of the left hand rank (directly above the civilian blowing his nose) is none ofther than Dave-by-the-Sea!
Foureyes

Yes indeed - 'tis I.

These are exceptionally good pictures and enlarge well. I think that the new Treasurer can be seen in the one of Dining Hall, but I would like confirmation of this. The Hall Warden is "Sam" Sargent - the Noel Sargent who was Longmate's Housemaster in Peele A in his book the Shaping Season. It is possible that DBTS is visible in this picture also.

Amazing - you look just like you, but with dark hair. There is a chap right behind you with glasses who bears a huge resemblance to someone on my year (I think it might be Graham Dallison). I wonder it he is any relation?

When I saw the pic, the blond guy with glasses immediately conjured up the name Hamilton. However, I can't be sure that there ever was such a person in Mid A.

and Jonny`s the spitting image of DBTS at the same age.

Dave-by-the-Sea is quite right (for once!) - that IS the new Treasurer peering around a bloke on "Trades"
DbtS is also visible, six to the right of GJ
Also, the woman standing on the left of "Sam Sargeant" is Miss Stephenson, the Lady Superintendent - never known to smile, but, with hindsight, she must have had a pretty awful job.
They really are good pics.

I took a bad boiled egg up to Miss Stephenson once - 'Just a bit fresh' she scoffed, refusing a replacement - the very thing it wasn't!

This is a really good pic of the Dining Hall.

It should have Lord Simon on it somewhere, he was a junior in Mid A at the time (4th table along), and if it was the Michaelmas Term 53, test cricketer John Snow will be somewhere at the bottom of the Thorn B table (5th table along).
