There they are! But the captions I tried to add obviously failed! Thank you Julian.

No 2 picture is the dreaded Millie.

And there is our little gang - the twins with ginger plaits are Imogen and Helen Sylvester. They were fun. Also Elaine Woods and Judy Jones!

I can add captions if you'd like them....
just let me know the caption for each picture name, and I'll try to get them up there...
(it's an automatic gallery I've written, which uses the "Title" in the file's meta data to display a caption if there is a title in there)

Hi Barbara -

Picture no 7 is left to right me, back of Elaine Woods' head, Mary Pemberton, Julia Sibary.

Goodness, how I wish that my picture labelling skills had been more efficient!

Munch,
I love the jar of Marmite in #8 :)
The 5 jars of Marmite in #22
and...
Is #14 the escape route out?

Munch, who are the other two with you outside 6s?

I had quite forgotten the grey socks with the grey dresses.

Katharine, they are "Ally'n'Phine" - Josephine Maude and Alison Stillard.

Ally was brilliant at needlework, Phine very artistic.

Didn't you just rejoice to see "Miss Jenkins" on the front door plaque? Thought so!

Well, Mr Knight, we all loved Marmite! It went a long way, and stayed in good nick in the warm tuck cupboard which you can see unlocked in pic 22! "Home jam" soon fermented in its depths.

Pic 14 was the front entrance. I don't know anyone who ran away out of the front entrance. DR's house was on the left looking out, and the White House opposite was a staff residence. It would have been rather like an insouciant escape from Holloway through the main gates.

But - there was a back gate, officially locked, but not always, know-what-I-mean, and I did hear there was a way of hopping over the wall beside this gate. Opposite was Hertford East Station. Runaways did much better via this route.

I can't think why I didn't have a go at running away, actually. I think the most successful absconder was Carola Curwen who stayed at liberty for several days, but I'm happy to be corrected on this one. With my luck, I'd have been caught before arriving at Liverpool Street station. A bid for Freedom!

Suppose I haven't changed much then - still married -

I don't remember that little wooden looking hut to the right of the main entrance being there in the 80's. And I do know of (at least) one girl who ran away using the main entrance

Looking at those pictures the majority of them could have been taken in the 80's when I was at Hertford - time certainly stood still at Hertford.

I did!.....
My Father, who was staying in Horsham whilst on leave from the Merchant Navy, had delivered me back to school on my first day of term after moving from Prep B to my new house in the senior school - Barnes B.
After 'lights out' I escaped and walked to Horsham where my Father found me on the doorstep as he returned from the pub.
Back in the car and was 're-delivered' after a suitable telling off.
Ho Hum..

I agree!!!!!! I was amazed looking at you and your comrades, Munch, twenty years before Vonny and I. Apart from the fact that some of the mothers were wearing hats, it was impossible to date those photos.
