This one was 2's 4th form (3rd form nowadays year 10) in June 1969.

I am back left in glasses, having a VERY bad hair day.

The cute socks were green (2's house colour)

This was a 2nd form trip to Cambridge May '67

The 2 gentlemen at the front were OBs who very kindly showed 5 giggling 12/13 year-olds round. Mike Smith in the middle and Mike Hiley on the left.

I forgot to attach the photo, then when I went to edit it my pc froze so I had to reboot, then got interrupted.

I will do it now.

Thanks

The Avenue looks much the same except it had lime trees up either side when we were there. You can just see the school hall at the far end.

The Headmistresses (sic) house is exactly the same.

The Girls Grammar School was staff living quarters, uniform store and the fiction library in the 60s/70s. There was a separate reference library in a new-ish building elsewhere.

I've been back to Hertford twice since I left in 1985 but both visits were probably in the late eighties so I haven't been back there for at least 15 years now. I'd like to visit again one day - although it was strict and there were strange ways there it brins back memories seeing pictures of the old place!
Green socks here as well  Better than those orange ones  Can't remember which house had those :?

Well done on remembering that!!

Change of subject (kind of) but did you know that 8's closed down a couple of years before we moved to Horsham? The house was used as a common room type place for the 6th form to use.

I have one of 'those' memories.

I didn't know that about 8's. So they reduced the number of girls before the move and then had to build the number back up afterwards?

Euterpe has asked for this.

Back row.

Me (Mary in glasses) Amanda McIlwain (now Herries) Julia Sibary (now Glowdansky)

Middle row

Jane Erskine Joanna Russell

Front

Caroline Holbert.

Of these, Amanda is mentioned in Old Blues in Books (2003), Julia I bumped into 11 years ago, she lives in Oxford and is a social worker.

Jane's brother is on FRU and when I contacted him a coupleof years ago he gave me her email address but she has never replied.

Joanna and Caroline are both on the Horsham page of FRU but there is no further info.

They did reduce the number of girls but I'm not really sure why as the object over the following years was to increase the female pupils. I do remember the announcment being made that it would be 8's that closed - a lot of the girls were upset. They obviously split the girls from 8's into the other houses. In my year we had 2 from 8's so that made 6 of us in total but then another girls from 3's requested a move to 2's so in the end there were 7 of us. I can't even remember what year this happened now - either 1982 or 1983 I reckon.

By the way - Amanda McIlwains sister was in 2's when I was there - Kate.

I know her brother (David) was at Horsham at some time, but I think he overlapped with Amanda by a year or so.
