Law and justice are not the same thing, of course. But we have the rule of law, not the rule of justice. Thank heavens. That is because 'justice' is a subjective term (some people doubtless think Jimmy Savile's body should be dug up and given the Oliver Cromwell treatment), and law (at least theoretically) is not. Heaven forbid we should ever have a 'rule of justice' where anyone can say what they think is 'just'.

Notwithstanding the above, I do think that justice is the supreme value.

I think CHOBA's not publishing the names is wrong. A criminal conviction is a public event.

I agree.

Yes, if we could agree what it was. But we can't, except in a very few open-and-shut cases.
Law, while subject to continuous development, has the advantage of being objective at any given time (and *reasonably* certain).

Or even Rev Porteous who was convicted later in a prep school.
Wonder if he was involved in anything whilst at CH....

I think this is the same guy who was a chaplain at CH in early 80s. As J.R rightly says, the plot thickens...
He had a son called Charles and a diaghter, Sidonia...
When did he leave CH?

At CH from 1980-1985 apparently.

This is a very serious allegation.
I have tracked down this link but am not really sure that the image is the same Michael Porteous I once knew? Can anyone else confirm?

This conviction - if it is Michael Porteous - relates to a time BEFORE he was at CH, not after as a previous poster had suggested.

I would think it’s a different Michael Porteous - there’s a Canon Michael Porteous in the West Kerrier benefice near Penzance who is more likely to be him...

Wow, that's quite a coincidence that there are two Michael Porteouses (rare name) who are both roughly the same age and both employed in private schools...

Indeed. What a coincidence.

A photo, if possible, of the 2nd., (West Country) Porteous might be interesting.

Coincidence?
I urge caution, as it is by no means impossible that it really is a coincidence. I have done a great deal of research, unrelated to C.H., into family trees and the same forenames do appear and reappear, not only in successive generations, but also in different branches in the same generation. I have had a quick look at Family Search and there appear to be at least 20 men named Michael Porteous living.
I had a similar experience. A William Miller (no relation) was 3 years senior to me in Lamb B. In about 1960 (-ish) he was charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act and sent to jail for twelve months. For many years after that some Old Blues would hear my surname and the fact that I had been in Lamb B in the 1950s and either avoid me or start asking questions about my experiences in the nick!
So, please take care over the Porteous business.
David (not the old lag!) Miller

I’ve not found one but his wife is called Kate...
