Bible help!

Post by Fairy »

My DD's best friend wants to buy her a Bible as a "good bye"present - her Mum wants to know if there are any specifics. I confess I am no expert on Bibles - cany anyone tell me what is required please?
Thanks

I checked which one to get when my eldest started, I was told a 'Good News Bible' would be best, so that's what we bought. However, it hasn't even been opened, it certainly isn't needed for chapel or prep. It's lovely that your daughter wants one, I'm just hoping she won't be disappointed that she won't actually use it in relation to school work. If she wants something that she'll use to remind her of home, how about a nice fountain pen, or a special photoframe with a picture of the two friends in it?

As it's for a present, why not buy a beautifully bound and attractive volume which you think the recipient would like? There are so many translations!

It's reminded me - amongst all the Christian literature with which I was surrounded as a child, there was an illustrated volume which showed a spendid version of Naboth's Vineyard. "Lovely" I thought. The Vineyard was a magnificent Gardeners' World pergola dripping with gigantic bunches of magnificent black grapes.

It was a terrible let-down for me when I first went to France and saw fields of dull green vines supported on low fences! So much for Bible Study....

Didn't we use our bibles in scripture lessons at Hertford with DR?

We had to have Good News Bibles (the ones with the weird faceless people) for our RS lessons...

If someone wanted a gift, then the NIV is relatively accessible and the one used by the majority of Anglican churches.
