Formatting IS important

Post by Katharine »

At work today I received a remittance advice from Transport for London.

The bottom line reads "Mayor of London If you cannot read this please telephone 0845..... "

I thought Boris was highly literate!

Not to mention: if you can’t read it, then you don’t see the message or the phone #

Yes -- we have had discussions on this before.

Composers do NOT proof read their messages.
eg. "Cattle please close gate", or" Farm crossing"

My all- time favourite (Posted on "Jokes", some time ago) is absoltely genuine ---

Hospital notice ----- "Family Planning, please use rear entrance"

Not a Smiley in sight !

I used to live in Stratford near to a white stick factory (no joke). There is a sign outside that reads:

Drive with care blind and deaf people
My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We’ll see about that.

The one that annoys me is the government's slogan
"Speed kills"

How in blazes can an inanimate concept (as opposed to the illicit drug) kill?
Surely it is driver error which is responsible for the death. I reckon the author and every user of the phrase should be sacked and sent back to school to learn common sense

Difficult as there is no-one around to talk about common sense, which I understand, died some years ago.
