Had this passed to me by a 'footy' colleague.

I think it's hilarious. Poor old Bradley Walsh !!

I actually saw this when it was broadcast. I was surprised when somebody asked me why everybody was laughing.

Reminded me of this classic:

Actually, this has been shown on UK TV, but late at night.

I wonder if any of the Forum Members from that era were asked to add realism to the event?

They would have missed out on bread rationing; that started in 1946.

Funny, but I still prefer her 'Old Granny' routine.

Oh dear! I really wanted to find this funny, but I couldn't shake off the thought that it is precisely this kind of 'fundamentalist' preacher which not only brings Christianity into disrepute, but also misuses his perceived authority to misrepresent trivial issues and blow them up out of all proportion to their original meaning. Sadly there are people who will follow his guidance - is that not how Islamic suicide bombers often start out? There is a whole isue here about the use of language ........ many people genuinely (and obviously wrongly) believe that God only speaks in the language of King James, and any attempt to make the Bible more understandable to modern man must therefore be a form of heresy. I wonder how I would have reacted if I had been in his congregation - it is one of those occasions when I would dearly love to be able to quote the original Hebrew and see how the preacher would react. No doubt he would have quoted St Paul that women should not speak in church!

PS - I bet he didn't pluck his text from any lectionary!

H'm - ten commandments with exclusion clauses - 'Thou shalt not kill' ....... except. I thought this guy wanted us to take the KJV literally - at least our previous vicar would have watered it down to 'thou shalt not do murder' in order to excuse his own prejudices. On the other hand he is right that all sorts of sins were deemed to be punishable by stoning to death, including adultery. I have always had trouble with the story of the woman 'taken in adultery' who was facing stoning until Jesus said 'Go and sin no more' - if she was caught in the act, how come there is no suggestion that the man was also to be stoned? I think, Alan, that we need to take this to a different thread! My brain is getting too senile to cope with all your high-flown philosophers, but bigotry still riles me!
