Sir George's Residential Home for Respectable Girls 1886

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Sir George's Residential Home for Respectable Girls 1886

Post by John Saunders »

A relative has recently moved to an apartment in this block which is in Spitalfields. The history and address is available within local press coverage. However I was trying to find a Housey connection because of the address and charitable status. Was Spitalfields a significant area for orphanages such as CH ? I have no map of the Area in my 1834 Trollop; Is there a street map available of 19th century Spitalfields? This block was built in 1884 but is now residential lettings. Any help would be appreciated.

There are several maps of 19th Century London available at http://mapco.net/london.htm. I also like http://www.locatinglondon.org/, which lets you switch between a modern map and two older maps. Then there are OS maps at http://maps.nls.uk/

I can spend hours looking at old maps.
