David Taplin (1939-2022)

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

David Taplin (1939-2022)

Post by Otter »

I have belatedly learned of the death of Professor David Taplin (CH 1950-57).

He was an engineer and professor who worked and taught in various countries around the world, before ultimately settling and retiring in Vancouver.

Our paths crossed professionally about 20 years ago and we stayed in touch sporadically, although (as is obvious from this post) not frequently. It took a few years for us to realise that we were both Old Blues.

He posted on this forum occasionally under the username "coliemore", and a few years ago he was the driving force behind the book Christ's Hospital: Tradition with Vision (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1839750162). He was an active member of the British Columbia Old Blues and was particularly passionate about limiting the number of full fee-paying places at CH.

A wonderful life, condolences to his family. This shows CH at its best, setting bright people up to pursue their talents to the full. Without metallurgy, and metallurgists we really have nothing but wood and stone, our world would be a primitive wasteland.
