First days at school

When I was there, there was only public phone booths one of which was by the tuck shop. You could always spot the new boys by the blubbing when it was their turn to use the phone. Sometimes the queues went past the squash courts.
I remember my clearest thought on my first day was, "what the hell have I got myself into".
On day 2 I was introduced to Mr Plumley and started a mutual loathing society till the day I left.

CD's ?????????

In my day, you had to make do with a wind-up HMV gramaphone and Nipper the dog, who, I'm told, was a personal friend of the school cat !

I wonder what the school is like about mobile phones these days?

I remember when I started there, you were actively discouraged from contacting home at all for the first week and definately now visiting for the first three weeks.
