The one I remember was a housemaster in Prep A during my time (1962-1964, then Ba B then Col B). At the time he owned a Landrover Safari, and his registration number, which he transferred from car to car was WAM 115. Before that it was an Austin J4 or JU250 type caravannette, with column change gears. It is amazing what you remember from 45 years ago!
I upset him once. He had a reel to reel tape recorder, with a tape of Hillaire Belloc poetry on, read by Mr Belloc himself. It fouled up whilst I was listening to it and ruined it.
If you read this Roger - Sorry again.

One of the Roger Martins was house master of Barnes A when I joined in 1982, and later of Thornton B for a year or two following the girls arrival. I remember him quite kindly, and certainly never knew he was an Old Blue. I think he retired from teaching at C.H. during my time there (i.e. before 1989).

Fairly sure he was still there in 89 when i left. The main thing i remember is his big 'dulux' dog who spent half the year with heavy, matted fur and the other half of the year looking half the size after his/her annual shearing. I was never taught by him but he was a really nice guy.

Dogs were never allowed to teach in my day, though come to think of it, I did once hear someone describe a lady teacher as something of a ..... well, you know, .... a female dog.

Etheldreda!! Poor old dog, I don't think she ever had a bath in her life... I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Roger's old classroom at the rear of the English block still has a doggy aroma...

Have we ascertained yet which Roger Martin is registered on the forum?

Is it the former teacher and pupil?

Or perhaps with all this talk of dogs I've inadvertently wandered into a discussion about Bob Martin!

Strangely enough, some of us were chatting yesterday at OB's Day about when you could check on the Members List when a registered member last logged in which is something we can't now do.

Over to you, Julian !

Hmmmm, well that would depend on how well behaved the dog is ......... I just can't envisage any of our dogs returning to heel if I were trying to bellow 'Eth-el-dre-da! Come!' as they took off down the paddock after a kangaroo.

Maybe clicker training would be called for?

She certainly answered to Etheldreda. I can remember RM being very strict when she was introduced to Barnes A as a puppy that she was not to be called "Ethel"!
