CH uniform worn by non members of school?

Post by Crippen »

On the XTC album Skylarking from 1986, Andy Partridge is wearing a CH coat on the inner sleeve photo. Has anyone spotted another non CH person wearing one? (The fella on the inner sleeve of the first Madness album doesn't count - he was at CH and sent in his photo)

The only picture I have of a non school pupil wearing on is when Marcel (a German gapper) borrowed mine to see what it was like!

I'm sure there was a picture somewhere of Mark Duley (organist in my day) wearing a Housey Coat, possibly during our Chapel Choir tour or Venice and Florence...

Corks (Rev WCM Cochrane) always wore a Broadie to hold his trousers up.

Seeing that Broadies are not readily adjustable, that seems peculiarly eccentric. (But of course, he was. The last time I ever saw Corks was in the Rising Sun, his watering hole by St Paul's. He wandered in wearing a sort of Chinese hat with a pigtail attached. The barmaid was unperturbed: "The usual, canon?" she said.)

I can't remember his costumes but, yes, he was different!
As for the House of the Rising Sun, that was only one of his many haunts as he progressed through the day. I can't remember the names (but I could walk there) but he claimed and it seemed feasible that he could legally drink 24 hours a day. This was about 6am in Smithfields as we had breakfast and before we went to the brewery across the bridge in Borough. Then, and more so now, there was no way I could keep up with his consumption.
What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!

There was an urban myth in my time that Housey coats were on sale in various emporia on the Kings Road during the late 70's and early 80's. I'm guessing that the XTC photo might explain where the myth came from.
